Welcome to the Geriactive blog page. This page will allow me an opportunity to share some of my thoughts and perspectives on aging and elder care. My hope is that these views will assist you in your dealings with the elderly if you are a clinician or better allow you to understand and care for your aging parent or loved one. Ultimately, it may give you a better appreciation for your own aging process.
Our never ending search for the fountain of youth continues. It may not however be the fabled "eden-esque" location found in literature. Currently, we seek better health or a delaying of the aging process through medication, better nutrition, exercise and fitness, cosmetics and surgery. All in an effort to look and feel younger than our chronological age. Some approaches are highly effective and evidence based ( nutrition and exercise). Others are simply aesthetic alterations that do nothing to improve life's quality and ultimate longevity. Quality and longevity appears to be the real goal. I would submit that this is ultimately what we are all striving for. How we achieve this goal is highly individual.
In the words of 19th century philosopher Henri Amiel:
"To know how to grow old is the masterwork of wisdom and one of the most difficult chapters in the great art of living"
I am looking forward to continuing this journey with you and developing our understanding of this amazing life process. All feedback is greatly appreciated. - CS
